Traditional Back Garden In Clacton

About This Project

Discover how an ordinary back garden on a Clacton housing estate was given a refreshing facelift. Our design and some skilled landscaping from Holland Landscapes created a stylish traditional back garden for our clients to enjoy.

The Client Brief

Our clients found the view from their back windows boring and uninspiring.  A tired lawn with a broken path bisecting it, a few shrubs and a rather dull view of next door’s wall. What they really wanted was something that would make them smile as soon as they opened the curtains in the morning. And then keep them smiling until bedtime.

On the wish list was a stylish patio to replace the existing slabs.  A utility area to hide the bins. Fantastic planting combined with a lawn they could take pride in.

Our Traditional Back Garden Design

Katie’s design for this garden is all about crisp lines, great views and lush, natural greenery.

As they step out of the door, our clients are greeted by a good sized patio in natural granite. There is plenty of room for a table and chairs and when the sun gets too strong our clients have a beautiful parasol which can shade them.

This garden naturally slopes a little towards the house, so Katie has included a low step in order to create a level lawn. She suggested using timber sleepers to make the step and to define the shape of the lawn.  Timber is a wonderful natural material and costs less to install

At the rear of the garden, screened from view is a utility area with room for bin storage and a small shed.

Katie has moved the  central path through the garden to one side to allow access to the utility area without bisecting the view from the windows.  This designer loves to use the art of hide and reveal in her designs. And so an access point from the lawn to the utility area sits in an opening between two trellis screens. Making garden visitors curious and more likely to explore.

All around the lawn are generous planting beds which will be filled with a mix of evergreen plants, aromatics, herbs and herbaceous perennials.  Plants such as Salvia, Viburnum, Sarcococca, Hydrangea, Myrtus and Weigela will bring all round interest and fill the garden with scent.
