Working With Our Clients

Creating a new garden is a significant investment, and the process can often feel overwhelming without the right guidance. Our role is to bring clarity, reassurance and expertise at every stage, carefully guiding you through the journey from initial ideas to the finished landscape with confidence and ease.

Through a thoughtful and considered design process, we help transform your aspirations into a beautifully realised garden—one that reflects your lifestyle, enhances your home and can be enjoyed for years to come.

Why Work With a Garden Designer?

A well-designed garden forms the foundation of every successful landscape project. Without a carefully considered design, it can be difficult to fully visualise the finished space, communicate ideas clearly to a landscaper, or achieve accurate construction costs.

Our role is to bring structure, creativity and technical understanding to the process—ensuring every element has been carefully planned and thoughtfully resolved before construction begins. From spatial flow and material choices to practical construction details, we create gardens that are not only visually striking, but designed to function beautifully over time.

The Design Journey

Every garden begins with conversation. Following your initial enquiry, we will arrange a consultation at your home to understand your property, lifestyle and aspirations for the space. This meeting allows us to explore how you wish to use the garden, discuss ideas and identify opportunities within the existing landscape.

During this stage, we also begin our site analysis, carefully assessing elements such as sunlight, shade, views, levels and existing features. A professional site survey forms an essential part of this process, providing the accuracy required to fully understand the unique characteristics of your garden. Detailed measurements, levels and the precise location of existing features ensure the design is informed with clarity and precision from the very beginning. From these early discussions and technical assessments, we prepare a detailed design brief that forms the foundation of the project.

The first stage of the design process focuses on the spatial arrangement of the garden—establishing the layout, circulation and positioning of key features. Once refined and agreed, we develop the concept plan, a scaled drawing that begins to bring the vision to life.

As the design evolves into the master plan stage, we refine materials, colour palettes and surface finishes, carefully considering every detail to ensure the garden feels cohesive, elegant and timeless. Alongside the drawings, we prepare detailed project documentation to support both clients and landscapers throughout the build process.

Construction detailing follows, where bespoke features and technical elements are carefully communicated to ensure the design is realised accurately on site.

Planting design is one of the most transformative stages of the journey. Thoughtfully composed planting schemes introduce texture, movement and seasonal interest, bringing softness and atmosphere to the garden while strengthening its connection to the surrounding landscape.

Working With Landscapers

With over 28 years of landscaping experience, our founder Paul Baker brings a rare depth of practical knowledge to every project. Naturally, we work closely with Holland Landscapes to deliver many of the gardens we design, ensuring a seamless transition from concept through to completion.

For clients working with their own contractor, we are equally happy to collaborate closely with external landscapers. Through project monitoring and site visits, we remain involved throughout the build process to help ensure the original design vision is realised with precision and care.

Visualising Your Garden

For clients who wish to experience the design in greater detail, we can provide 3D visuals, animated walkthroughs and immersive virtual reality presentations. These visual tools help bring the proposed garden to life, offering a deeper understanding of the space, materials and atmosphere before construction begins.

Garden Lighting

Lighting is considered from the earliest stages of the design process, helping to extend the enjoyment of the garden long into the evening while creating atmosphere, depth and subtle focal points throughout the landscape.

Our lighting plans carefully balance aesthetics with practicality, ensuring features are beautifully illuminated without overwhelming the space or disturbing the surrounding environment. Detailed plans include lighting positions, cable routes and control systems to support accurate installation.

Irrigation

As part of our wider design approach, we also specify irrigation systems to support the long-term health and establishment of your garden. With increasingly warm and dry summers, effective irrigation has become an essential consideration for both lawns and planting schemes.

Every system is thoughtfully designed around the specific requirements of the garden, with sprinkler layouts, drip irrigation and water supply carefully planned and clearly detailed within the irrigation drawings.
